Final Thesis Papers
As we neared the end of the year, the class finally turned to our unit on The Things They Carried during which the students would review all of the skills acquired during the previous units and (hopefully!) show their growth by writing thesis papers on Tim O’Brien’s novel. Accordingly, there were small assignments on writing thesis statements and on close reading throughout the unit to review and refresh these techniques.
The final papers served as a summative assessment, clarifying what the students successfully learned and where they still had more growth areas. For this section, like in the Initial Thesis Papers section, I will be looking at:

- The Thesis Paper Assignment given to the class
- Thesis Paragraphs from Nicole, Anastasia and Nem
- One representative Body Paragraph from all three students
